I took a two week break from playing the game. I was still writing the blog and shit, obviously, but I didn't communicate with anyone in-game for the length of time that I was gone. I think the closest I came was posting something to the Fweddit subreddit.
I missed a lot of good fights, especially over Dal, which we eventually lost the day I returned. The Brawl for Dal.
I just needed the break. Recharge. Faction warfare can become a bit of the same ol' same ol'.
These last two days, though not super busy with the PvP, every fleet was something entirely different. Some in the usual bounds of faction warfare, a few completely out of the ordinary.

Apparently while I was gone something called Glitterfleet came into being. Although, it's stylized #GLITTERFLEET. They have their own Jabber channel within the alliance. They focus mainly on faction warfare chores. Such as plexing. Whoring LP. Spending LP at the iHubs. The stuff that keeps the warzone functioning. They've figured out how to have fun while doing it. Which is saying something, because the chores that comprise faction warfare are not inherently fun.
They're into some questionable shit, though. Ponies. And Ke$ha. I'd never even heard a Ke$ha song, until today. I'd be fucking embarrassed for our Glitterfleet, but they're loving it. And even though I joined, I'm considering myself an embedded reporter. Putting up with the painful reality of all this is Glitterfleet to bring news of their missions to the outside world.
What Glitterfleet has going for it is that nobody in Fweddit need miss DurrHurrDurr's absences any longer. We've discovered the British Durr, and elevated him to chief fleet commander of the Glitterati.

Twice we fought Pandemic Legion. Twice we won the ISK war. Twice they dropped an assortment of carriers and supercarriers on our cruiser fleet. Still, they were fun fights. Doesn't say much for Pandemic, though. Takes some of the shine off them as elite PvP, when we're kicking the tar out of them, until they drop five Thanatos, five Archons and five Nyxes on to us. Even when that happened, we remained on field, got a couple more kills, before scooting off. The second fight, earlier tonight, 1.5B ISK in losses to them, about 160M ISK in losses to Fweddit. Yeah, 1.5B ISK is no great shakes to Pandemic Legion, but their legend should have dictated more whoop-ass.
If they'd like to learn a few things about PvP, I'm sure we'd be more than happy to fight them again in the future.
I used to be in awe of Pandemic Legion. Until these two fights. They're definitely not all that and a bag of chips. They're rich mothers. That's for sure. Dropping five Nyxes on us. That's impressive. Their actual abilities in combat? Well, they're no Fweddit, that's the truth.

Ran into my first RvB Ganked fleet. I just finished soloing an Imperial Navy Slicer in my Talwar, when sixty RvB drop into my medium plex. I wasn't paying attention during the fight. Apparently I was told they were on the way in comms, but I was so focused on the fight, did not hear.
I was smoked in short order. Do not comment on the Talwar fit. I was looking at it afterwards and wondering why I had shield rigs and a 200mm plate. That's fucked up. I have no excuse for that, and am kinda baffled by it, to be honest. But hey, Talwar over a Slicer. Op success.

I hit six months with Fweddit. I'm looking forward to the next six months.

For all Susan Black's talk lately of how not risk-averse Late Night Alliance is, I did not see it tonight. We're sitting in Kourmonen. A mixture of eighteen dessies and frigates. There are sixteen Late Night in local. We're sitting in a medium plex, basically inviting them to come fight us in their usual ship of choice, the Stabber Fleet Issue. We were ready to whelp to them for some fun. But no, they would not come out to fight.
I realize we're heads and shoulders above them skillwise, but we were trying to even the playing field. Their sixteen SFIs (and logistics) versus our eighteen destroyers and frigates. Even Late Night would have been hard-pressed to lose given those odds.
Please, no more talk about how risk-averse your alliance is, Susan. After tonight, you really do not have a leg to stand on.

We were planning a roam into null tonight, but Bomber Bar had the entrances into Providence all locked up. I suggested we go fight Gents, but someone said "Nah. We did that last week, and Pinky got all our Drakes killed. All of our Drakes. Tell him about it Pinky."
All I got was a "Mistakes were made." I'll have to find out more about that. If we got our asses handed to us by Gentlemen's Agreement, maybe they're the new Pandemic Legion.

Brave Newbies implosion in 3 ... 2 ... 1. Now there is a group so full of itself, so completely full of dysfunction, that when they erupt in a torrent of drama, it is going to be heard and felt everywhere. We'll read about it on EVENews24, on TMDC, and in giant threadnaughts of rage and tears on the forums. Visit the Brave Newbies subreddit. It's a boiling cauldron of entitlement and resentment and hostility. This is going to be very amusing to watch, as 1700 members get blown to bits across all of New Eden.

Tonight the TMDC writers had a roam and a delay-free stream up. When we were notified, they were in Huola, just five jumps from us. We grabbed whatever ships we had, fast frigs and dessies, mostly, and headed out. About two minutes between starting the stream and hitting the Siseide gate. That's some fast fleet formation.
We caught up to them as they were hitting the Kourmonen gate. We were disorganized as fuck, though. Fast tackle failure. Didn't catch any of them. But was amusing listening to the stream. "Let's kill Poetic." "I want to kill Poetic." "If I end up dying to Poetic, please end my life." That last one warranted a "Hey!" out of me into local. They realized we were watching them. They went dark for a bit, to keep us out of the loop. We chased them into Providence.
No kills, but a good bit of fun.

It's good to be back. And it's good to see a bunch of variety in the things we're doing.

Poe it was blasternagas against ham drakes at zero on a gate during rafax's memorial fleet

"And even though I joined, I'm considering myself an embedded reporter" ...
ReplyDeleteA bit like Hunter S.Thompson when he hooked up with the Hell's Angels? Hehe.
Exactly like that, but with glitter.
DeleteGreat read man and welcome back from your break!
ReplyDeleteClearly you know nothing about BNI.
ReplyDeleteWe have somuch fun with you guys. Clearly you don't have any idea how we actually function.
ReplyDeleteI WILL comment on your Talwar fit. It's terrible!
ReplyDelete"Visit the Brave Newbies subreddit. It's a boiling cauldron of entitlement and resentment and hostility."
ReplyDeleteI have to ask, have *you* ever visited it? Becuase it really isn't. Most of the "resentment and hostility" is from people outside BNI bitching about what they're doing. God forbid people actually have fun with this damn game.
How many of the brave newbies are actually newbies? because all the ones I've seen have been flying stealth-bombers. Which certainly isn't a newbie ship.
DeleteWe just try and be competent. Not elite, not anything. Just Competent.
ReplyDeleteAs one of the writers on the TMDC roam, you will be pleased to hear that running from fwreddit destroyed whatever little fleet coherency we had, and we all got exploded by a 30 man gang 1 jump later. We managed to pop a rapier at the cost of everything.

I find this funny after this post. Did take 6 of them though.
Glad to have you back, and, Willkommen to #GLITTERFLEET!
