The Spanish Inquisition

Nobody expects it. Nobody fears it either (because I suck at PvP.) Spanish Inquisition. It's what I name my gank Brutix.

I got my first kill. And my first gank. A Mackinaw. It was my second try of the night.

The first try was in Eygfe (Metropolis). A 0.7 system. Did everything correctly until the moment of attack. Damned fumble fingers.

Used a newbie alt to prep the Eygfe system (attacked some miner in one of the belts.) Docked the newb and brought out my warp-to alt. He flew to the icebelt in Eygfe. A dozen or so Mackinaws mining away, most I see there every time I visit (obvious bots). My warp-to alt flies an Iteron. Why? Nobody suspects an Iteron of anything. (Usually.) Line up a dude, putter over within 1.5km of him, then stop. Then I warp in Poetic, in her Brutix (all decked out per the Goonswarm Guide to Ganking.) I drift in just within optimal, launch the drones, then begin targetting. I quickly hit F1, F2, and F3 (target painter, weapons, warp disruptor.) I forget about the warning message that forces me to confirm my ill intentions. Damn it. I click yes. Then hit F2 and F3 again. My screw-up, because the weapon cycles once and turns off. I don't notice this until after I have my drones engaged. Crap. I turn on weapons again. Too late. I only get two shots off and CONCORD shows up. Kablooey. Spaceman Spiff style.

I examine the logs. I'm not sure that if I hadn't screwed up, I'd have had enough time to pop the Mackinaw I'd chosen as my target. My gunnery skills are half decent (the main ones are fives, and all the supports are fours), but I don't really want to try this again unless I have the best shot of success. I need a 0.5 system. As long as I don't screwup, I should be able to get my kill. If not, then I need more skilling up to do. Thankfully, there is another ice belt just two jumps from Eygfe. Nein. And it is a 0.5 system.

I build myself another Brutix and head to Nein. Me, myself and alts.

I go through the whole routine again. Prep the system for CONCORD. Move my warp-to alt to the icebelt. Scope out prey. Atticus something-or-other. Smart one here. I get my Iteron within 1.5km and stop. Tab over to Poetic to warp. By the time Poetic gets there, Atticus is just entering warp, leaving the icefield. Mackinaw prey is gone. The Iteron wasn't fooling that dude at all.

There are two other Mackinaws in system with an Orca. Obviously owned by the same player. The word Feet in each ship name. They are 70km away. I'm like, "Ah fuck it." No point using the Iteron to get in close. Already blew my cover. So I send the Iteron back to dock and slow boat the Brutix over to the other Mackinaws. I figure, if they're at their keyboard, they'll warp away before I can get the Iteron in close. They'll do the same with the Brutix creeping up on them.

Botters, most likely. I get the Brutix up to within optimal of one of the Macks. Launch drones. Target. F1. Click confirm. F2. F3. Engage drones. Sit and wait. Boom. Mackinaw dead. CONCORD shows up. My Brutix turns into space confetti. But who cares. I killed something. Woot!

Here's the killmail. Notice the drop. That thing paid for the Brutix, plus part of the other loss. They sell for over 55M ISK in Metropolis. Not too mention the insurance payout. (Yes, I will collect on insurance until CCP fixes/nerfs it. I am a proponent of not receiving insurance if killed by faction police or CONCORD.)

Concerning that drop too. Since I'd sent the Iteron home I was not able to loot on the spot. So I flew back to station in my pod. Posted the killmail. Noticed the Gisti Shield Booster. Decided to fly my Iteron dude back to the icebelt, on the off chance the wrecks were still there. Holy shit, they were still there (and Ebony is still sitting in her pod.) Slow boated to the wrecks. And then looted them. Some sort of botting for sure going on there. I should have had no opportunity to snag that Gisti Shield Booster, not with the 10 minutes it took to finally get it.
